It was another one of those magical weekends around here this past weekend. We had about a zillion things to do, but somehow things still just felt relaxing and the weekend seemed longer than usual. I hope the trend continues!
Because we were having a garage sale early Saturday morning, Trent spent the night at my parents' house Friday night. We figured it was the perfect opportunity to do an early anniversary celebration since we never have a chance to go out past 6:30 pm (or on our own) anymore. I worked worked worked like mad all day Friday so I would feel caught up and be able to enjoy date night, and it was 5:30 before I knew it. Hair half dried and nothing to wear with a dinner reservation at 6pm, but I had a make it work moment and we got out the door on time! a few minutes late.
After a quick dinner we headed to the theater and saw Runner Runner. I'm no movie critic, but I don't know...take it or leave it I guess. Shockingly Ben Affleck was much more appealing than Justin Timberlake in the film. Who woulda thought??
Then it was across the street to a late night "modern diner" for some dessert. A cool front was coming in, so we sat out on the patio and enjoyed the breeze. I stuffed my face with a waffle sundae in place of a cocktail and of course immediately regretted it. I did manage not to get anything on my white jeans, though, so that was a win. We looked at the clock thinking it must be after midnight, but no...it was 9:59 pm. OMG. We are SO old. I was exhausted driving home...and the line of cars wrapped around Whataburger getting their pre-going out food at 10pm made me feel even more exhausted...and even older.
The rest of the night was spent stressing over the storm and 20+ degree temperature drop that was forecast for the following morning. I mean...I have been absolutely dying for that weather, but 1) NOT on garage sale day, and 2) not for just one day. It didn't stick around, grr.
We woke up Saturday morning earlier than we even get up with Trent to start setting up for the sale, checking weather.com every five seconds. It was still hot in the early hours of the morning and hadn't rained overnight, so I had hope. But a few hours in with hardly any customers, and of course RIGHT at the moment Matt decided to leave for donuts and Starbucks, ten
We toughed it out a little while longer to get as much sold as we could and surprisingly got rid of most everything...possibly because we practically gave it away just to hurry things along. But we managed to make a bit of money and clear out a house full of junk which was the main goal. And then the bottom fell out of the sky, so we packed the rest of the rain-soaked goods into the truck and headed straight to Goodwill. My hands were frozen, and I was soaking wet...so yet again...no pictures. Except of the donuts, duh.
After thawing out and rinsing off, it was on to the next weekend project...half bath makeover! I have hated our pedestal sink from the day we moved in, and a few weeks ago we scored a killer deal on a new vanity that has been sitting in the garage waiting to be installed. Saturday was the day! My dad came over, and he and Matt took out the old sink and installed the new vanity. It was a bigger project than I realized because they had to cut the baseboards and do a few other things I wasn't expecting, but ultimately it got done and I absolutely LOVE it. As you can see, we also painted the bathroom a deep red. Now that the painting and vanity install are out of the way, I can really get to work on the smaller things - changing the light fixture, decorating, etc. Watch out for the big reveal later this week!
We had planned on going to the Arboretum Sunday morning before it got too crowded as the "flowers" part of the 4th anniversary "fruit and flowers" theme, but it was still super chilly early in the day, so we decided to stick around here, work on the house some more, hang out with Trent and do a few errands together. It felt like Trent had been gone for way longer than 36 hours. The day warmed up and turned out to be the prettiest day we have had so far this season! We had lunch on the patio to soak in the weather, and Trent loved it. He is so into being outside these days. Then it was on to the grocery store for a few things, and we saw the perfect opportunity to get some pictures of Trent in the pumpkins since we didn't make it out to the Arboretum. It also saved us $25 in tickets, so I bought $25 worth of extra crap. Go figure. When is the next garage sale??
And that was that. Trent went to bed, and we worked on some more house projects before realizing we were completely and totally worn out and heading to bed ourselves. And here we are again...Monday morning! Hope everyone had a great weekend and got to celebrate fall one way or another. Lots in store this week...stay tuned!
